We were presented with some great KMU-100 questions from our customers, so we thought we should share this technical information. Here are a few FAQ's for the KMU-100 and the RMC-185 controller:
Q: We plan to put the KMU-100 in a studio rack. How loud is it? A: At boot up about 60 db, but once the temperature level is detected the fans will cycle down to about 56db. (Less than a conversation in a quiet restaurant)
Q:What is the AC current draw of the unit?Specs give 12v/5a but I know this is not what the wall wart will present to the AC line. I need this for rack current calculations. A:Standby mode 005 watts, when fully booted it is drawing on average 158 watts or 1.3 amps AC.
Q: Our input SRC will be a Panasonic AW-UE70KPJ. @2160P. The manual tends to indicate the GL (gen-lock) input sets the output rate which will be 1080i. Do I need TLS (Tri Level Sync or will BBRST (analogue black burst) work for reference? A:Black Burst and Tri Level Sync is not required, but you do have the option to lock to a separate reference with either format.
Q:How is the KMU-100 connected to the RMC-185 controller? Is the RMC-185 required or is this done via LAN connectivity? A: A 5 foot RJ-45 to RS-422 cable is provided with every RMC-185 controller to attach to the KMU-100 for control. If you need to extend the standard cable then you can add a null modem cable to the serial connector. The KMU-100 can be controlled without the RMC-185 via LAN connectivity via our PC application.
Q: What is the RS-422 Pinout? A: 1 GND 2 TX- 3 RX+ 4 GND 5 GND 6 GND 7 TX+ 8 RX- 9 GND
Q:Regarding outputs, does the HDMI follow the SDI or is it separate? Can it output HD rather than 3G? A: HDMI output is only for multi-view and will support the following formats 1080p50/59.94/60
Q: What HDMI version are the input and output ports? A: HDMI 2.0
